Online Casinos Face Off for Charity

16 Apr 2006

Two of the biggest rivals in the online casinos industry will face off at the Global Interactive Gaming Summit and Expo this May. According to the event’s organizers, Mitch Garber, the new CEO of online casinos firm Party Gaming, and his rival Noam Lanir of Empire Online will compete against each other in a ski race for charity. The two online casinos executives have agreed to participate in a 24 foot skiing dash, with all bets placed on the winner going to a problem gambling charity.

The online casinos event is being organized by River City Group on behalf of the Gordon House Association, which works with problem gamblers. The issues of gambling addiction and underage gambling both feature prominently at this year’s Global Interactive Gaming Summit, with several events, including the race between Lanir and Garber, aimed to raise money for the charity. The focus on social issues associated with gambling addiction is designed to help online casinos find new ways to combat compulsive gambling, and to show opponents of the online casinos industry that gaming operators are taking a responsible and supportive approach to the issue.

The Global Interactive Gaming Summit is to be held from May 16-18 in Montreal. Representatives from leading online casinos and gaming sites are expected to attend the three day event. Workshops, key note speeches and networking opportunities are all provided by the Summit, which has seen the number of online casinos operators in attendance increase dramatically each year.
